Five years ago, as the LHC was gearing up, the HEP community working on theories beyond the Standard Model (bSM) was buzzing with impatience and huge enthusiasm: the wait is over, and let the bSM fiesta begin! The LHC threw cold water on these expectations. The post-LHC world looks pretty standard, although some measurements seem to be at odds with the Standard Model. By discussing what we have learnt, theory-wise, and how we proceed in these circumstances, I will try to give a perspective on the situation in bSM theory after the LHC Run I results.
